Statement following verdict in Roman Storm’s case

The following statement is attributed to Blockchain Association Senior Counsel Laura Sanders following the verdict in Roman Storm’s case:

“Tornado Cash is non-custodial software through which people engage in self-directed, p2p transactions: Roman Storm did not and could not exercise control or custody over user assets. While today’s verdict was a mixed bag, we are incredibly disappointed that the jury found Storm guilty on Count 2, and urge him to appeal. Blockchain Association stands ready to support that effort. The Trump administration has set out to enhance legal and regulatory clarity and protect American innovation. We therefore urge the Trump administration to act swiftly to end the Biden-era approach of ‘regulation by prosecution’ by declining to re-prosecute, and by amending Section 1960 (18 U.S.C. § 1960) so it cannot be misapplied to non-custodial software developers.”
