Blockchain Association Announces Departure of CEO Kristin Smith

Washington, D.C. (April 1, 2025) – Blockchain Association, the leading voice for the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, today announced that Kristin Smith will step down from her role as CEO, effective May 16, 2025. Under the leadership of BA’s Board of Directors, the search for a new CEO is already underway.

Kristin’s leadership of the Association began before day one. Appointed by the newly formed board in the fall of 2018, Kristin established the Association and orchestrated its announcement and rollout. In the six-and-a-half years that followed, the Association thrived. Beginning as just a handful of pioneering crypto companies, the Association reached a new membership milestone just last month – and now counts more than 125 leading organizations among its membership. Similarly, the Association’s staff has grown, with 17 full time staff members.

Kristin’s strategic vision, fearless leadership, tireless dedication, and passion for the industry led the Association to the peak it’s at today. Under her leadership, BA has cemented its position as a powerful advocate for innovation, responsible policy, and the advancement of blockchain technology in the United States and beyond.

Since joining the Association, Kristin guided the organization through a period of unprecedented growth and influence. During her tenure, the Association successfully championed policies that support the development of blockchain technology, defended the industry against misguided regulations, and built a robust community of innovators committed to shaping the future of the industry.

“Kristin’s leadership has been instrumental in transforming Blockchain Association into the powerhouse it is today,” said Marta Belcher, President of the Blockchain Association Board of Directors. “Her passion for the industry and her ability to bridge the gap between technology and policy have left an indelible mark on our organization and the broader blockchain ecosystem. We are deeply grateful for her contributions and wish her the best in her next chapter.”

Blockchain Association remains stronger than ever, thanks to the exceptional team Kristin has built. The current staff, a talented group of policy experts, advocates, and industry veterans, will continue to drive the organization’s mission forward during this transition. The Association’s commitment to advancing blockchain innovation and protecting the interests of its members remains steadfast and unwavering.

The Board of Directors has initiated a comprehensive search for Kristin’s successor, aiming to identify a leader who can build on the organization’s successes and navigate the evolving landscape in Washington. Further updates on the transition will be provided as the process unfolds.

“It has been an honor to serve as CEO of Blockchain Association and work alongside such a dedicated team and community,” said Kristin Smith. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together and confident that the organization’s future is bright. I look forward to seeing my team, our members, and the industry continue to thrive under new leadership.”

Kristin will start a new role as President of Solana Policy Institute on May 19.
