Blockchain Association Statement on SEC Innovation Exemption

Washington, D.C. (September 17, 2026) — Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger issued the following statement in response to the Innovation Exemption issues by the SEC:

“Blockchain Association welcomes the SEC’s Innovation Exemption as a critical step toward modernizing U.S. capital markets and creating a pathway for responsible financial innovation to take place onchain.

By providing tailored relief for the trading of tokenized NMS stocks, the Commission is recognizing that new technologies and market structures can require fit-for-purpose regulatory treatment. Tokenization has the potential to make markets more efficient, accessible, and competitive, and today’s action provides an opportunity for that technology to develop in the United States within a framework designed to preserve investor protections and market integrity.

We appreciate Chairman Atkins and the Commission’s continued work to modernize the federal securities framework and provide market participants with greater regulatory clarity. The Innovation Exemption is an important step, and we look forward to engaging with the Commission, including by responding to their invitation for comments.”
