Blockchain Association Statement on House Ways and Means Committee Markup of the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 15, 2026) – Blockchain Association (BA) released the following statement ahead of tomorrow's House Ways and Means Committee markup of H.R. 10357, the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act.
"Tomorrow's markup is the most significant step Congress has taken on digital asset taxation, and it reflects months of serious, bipartisan work by Chairman Smith and the Ways and Means Committee," said Summer Mersinger, CEO of Blockchain Association. "For years, taxpayers and the IRS alike have operated without workable rules. Chairman Smith deserves credit for moving this from principles to bipartisan legislative text."
"Because this bill reaches every corner of the digital asset economy, from everyday users to the businesses building the infrastructure, the details matter. Our members are reviewing the text closely and look forward to working with the Committee on the remaining issues as the process moves forward. Done well, this legislation will give Americans confidence to use digital assets and keep the next generation of financial infrastructure growing here at home."
