Blockchain Association Statement on CFTC Action on Equity Perpetual Futures
Blockchain Association Executive Vice President of Legal and Government Relations Ashok Pinto released the following statement following the CFTC’s announcement on equity perpetual futures:
“We applaud Chairman Selig and the CFTC for taking an important step toward bringing innovative financial products into regulated U.S. markets.
In our August comment letter, Blockchain Association urged the SEC and CFTC to use the existing joint regulatory framework for security futures to enable equity perpetuals to trade in the United States. Today's announcement advances that approach and demonstrates the value of coordination between the two agencies.
For too long, regulatory uncertainty has pushed innovation and market activity offshore. Providing a clear pathway for equity perpetuals in U.S. markets will strengthen American competitiveness while expanding investor choice and maintaining strong market protections. We look forward to continued SEC-CFTC harmonization and a technology-neutral approach that allows both traditional and blockchain-based markets to innovate here at home.”
